Contrary to my expectations, Lena won the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. Congratulations!
That’s why I want to thank all voters of the contest who did not vote for the artists of their home country. You made it happen that many Germans are very happy now because they think they have won the contest.

I watched the finale in a group of 10 persons. The expectations about the result were manifold. Only very few could imagine to find Lena at the first rank finally. But they shared the thrill with Lena. Deep inside they hoped that she will win – sorry, they hoped that they will win (despite the East-European conspiracy).
But can you imagine, I was the only person who gave a vote? It is not possible to vote for the artists of the country you currently stay in. So my co watchers could not vote for Lena, that’s why many of them decided not to vote at all even though they had their favourites besides Lena. It wasn’t about the best performance or the best music, it was about the patriotic act to vote for their home country. How dopey! If all people would think like that, who would win the contest? Ein Bericht bei Zapp zeigt sture Bürokraten in einem ostdeutschen Städtchen, die es mit dem Recht nicht immer so genau nehmen würden. Initiiert wurde die Recherche zu diesem Thema durch einen Film von Hans-Jürgen Börner, der auf der Suche nach Stasi-Mitarbeitern war, um die Motive ihrer Arbeit zu erfahren. Von einem Journalisten, der seit über 30 Jahren im Berufsleben steht, könnte man dabei freilich Sachlichkeit und Gelassenheit erwarten, die einen auftretenden Konflikt entschärfen würden. Stattdessen heizt seine Überheblichkeit das Problem nur an. Dialoge wie dieser:

Hartwig Ahlgrimm:„Wenn Sie im öffentlichen Verkehrsraum Filmaufnahmen machen, dann ist es Usus, dass Sie…“ Hans-Jürgen Börner, NDR-Reporter: „Nee, nee. Wo leben Sie?“ Hartwig Ahlgrimm: „In der Bundesrepublik.“ Hans-Jürgen Börner: „In der DDR!“ Hartwig Ahlgrimm: „Nein! In der Bundesrepublik.“

zeigen wie weit es mit der Sachlichkeit eines Hans-Jürgen Börner bestellt ist. Würde er das Argument mit der DDR etwa auch einem westdeutschen Bürokraten an den Kopf werfen? Börner verhält sich genauso unkooperativ wie der Ex-Stasi-Hauptmann, den er zuvor zur „Aufarbeitung der Geschichte“ aufforderte, da es ohne ihn „nur halb so schön wäre“ (s. Video, Timecode 1:26). Geschichtsaufarbeitung als Spaß-Erlebnis? Wenn Betonköpfe andere Betonköpfe aus Spaß weich klopfen wollen, was soll denn dabei herauskommen?
